About George Markey

George Markey grew up in a very musically oriented family. His father was an accomplished pianist and tenor vocalist, and his mother was a operatic soprano singer. His Grandfather, Dr. George Boone Markey served as a professor at Westminster Choir College and the Guillmont School of Organ. His mother was a vocal student of Jane Page Markey, Master of Voice and Operatic Soprano. Jane Markey was offered a position in the Italian opera, but turned it down in order to have a family. His parents’ first meeting was through the art of music.

George's first solo vocal performance was at the age of 5. Not soon after, George was already on the wish list for many weddings and church functions.  Having developed operatic soprano abilities, he was already singing professionally by age 10. Under the instruction of his mother, George learned techniques to vocalize in a variety of styles. Opera, Jazz and Broadway, are some of the styles in which he sings. Through the instruction and encouragement of his grandfather, Dr. George Boone Markey, George developed skills at the piano, and passed the New Jersey Praxis exam for Music Core Content knowledge. George also served as an adjudicater at Ocean County teen Arts.

George has 12 years experience working with children with special needs. This is a program that incorporates piano, voice, guitar, and drums, also music history and appreciation in classroom settings. The program also incorporates professional recording. George also has 14 years experience teaching music in his privately owned business.

He has performed at Continental Airlines arena, Radio City Music Hall, The Spectrum, PNC Bank Arts Center, and Waterloo Village. He has shared the stage with such acts as The Manhattan Transfer, Dion, Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge, The Duprees, Larry Chance and The Earls, and Lennie Coco and The Chimes. He has appeared on Don K. Reid’s Doo-Wop Shop on WCBS FM on two occasions. He has also appeared with Cousin Brucee. George has also worked as a piano player and singer for The Molly Pitcher, The Oyster Point, The Rumson Country Club, and The Mill Inn, Spring Lake.
